How much do you spend a week and on what?

Aside from room and board, how much money do you spend a week and on what?

I vary a lot. Most weeks, I don’t spend any money outside of my meal plan. When I do spend money, I’m usually between $20-40. It’s usually on something from Amazon, a quick meal out with friends, or a movie ticket. Then I usually get a $3 bus pass to see friends across town once a week.

20-100 on alcohol. Depends on whether I’m having a prty and how many nights I go out.

20-150 on food. I’m not on the meal plan.

350 books.

50/month maybe on clothes.

55/2 months on a carton.

Pretty much it.

80/nth on gas

25$/week on metro fares, I work off campus and will be living off campus next year so I expect that to go up.

40$/week on food. Not on a meal plan and it’s an expensive city.

20$/week paying down credit card debt

20-40$/month on miscellaneous stuff

$80/month for car insurance and phone bill.

$40-$50/month on food (I mooch and have a meal plan).

$100/month or so on miscellaneous items that you need (toiletries, clothes, etc).

$50/month on gas (I drive a lot but I have a Prius, haha).

$20-$40/week on entertainment things like movies, laser tag, other junk.

about $150 to $200 a week on all food
$60to $100 a month on random things like laundry detergents, trash bags, shampoo, ect.
$200-$400 a month on gadgets like amplifiers, headphones, computer stuff, ect.
$200-$300 a month on hobbies/activities when hanging out with friends/misc.

Usually less than 20 bucks for one non-meal plan meal on the weekend with friends (usually Chinese or Dominos)

Add a few bucks for a cover charge if we go to a club or bar that charges an entrance fee…

Or a few bucks on movie rentals.

More obviously if I buy Walmart/Target supplies but I don’t go every week.

20 dollars a week on food. Chinese and Pizza =]

Depends -
Going out to a party - outfit/transportation money 100+

How many are on a budget set by parents? If so what is that budget? Do you usually go over?

I’m also wondering about food budgets. I’m moving off campus, and my parents want me to have a budget (we haven’t set it yet).

Why is everyone’s budgets for food so expensive? I was thinking ~$150 a month for a food budget… (mind you I also have a ~$312 a semester, off-campus meal plan.

OVER NINE THOUSANDDDDDDDD.
Usually.

Have you ever actually gone grocery shopping for a weeks worth of food, Johnson? My fiance and I are spending about $150 a week on meals at the moment, because we are cooking real meals every night (that includes incidentals like dish detergent, but we aren’t spending a significant amount on that). Normally we only cook two, maybe three, times a week and eat leftovers the rest of the time, and we spend about $70 every two weeks. We shop at the discount store and live in a fairly inexpensive place. Food is expensive.

Yeah, I’ve gone shopping for food before. You’re suggesting 150… for two people. That’s 75 a week, so 300 a month.
The 150 I suggested is not including how much I’ll still be eating on campus, because I’m still required to get a (small) meal plan.

When I’ve bought food for myself for an entire week, I’ve never spent even close to $75 before.

Besides, there’s no way I’ll be cooking every night. I’ll be the standard college student, cook one thing and eat the leftovers for at least 3 days after. Or cold cuts for sandwiches.

Edit: AUTransfer also has a similar budget listed - $160 a month.
