So, I’d like to know what you guys think: how much do you think going to the Humanities Symposium will help admission to Princeton, if at all?

Although I’m an engineering applicant, I went b/c I have significant interests in the humanities as well. I would like to keep a list of CCers who went so we can see how many are admitted come December (and April). Hopefully this will be helpful for RD applicants in the future who are Hum Symp alumni.

I'm sorry, I guess I just assumed you guys knew what it was =)...
The Princeton Humanities Symposium took place back in September. The way it worked is the guidance counselor recommended one person from the school, and Princeton selected about 80 people from the US to come to a two-day symposium. A day was spent on precepts from Pton humanities professors, and there were speeches from different people to encourage studying the arts at Princeton. For the story of one a few years ago, here's a link to the Princeton newspaper (you can search for more stories if you want). http://www.dailyprincetonian.com/archives/2003/10/06/news/8732.shtml

I'm just curious as to what role it might play in the admissions process. Some people mentioned in last year's ED thread that they thought it helped them.

I'm not sure how much this is linked to how much it helps but the Princeton Admissions people who were in charge of the program said around 50% of attendants last year ended up GOING to Princeton so I would assume more were accepted.

well im not sure if its just the Hum. symp increasing their chances. i mean, 80 ppl total-they must all be extremely well qualified to start with. but im sure it helps a little bit

The Hum Symposium takes kids that are already very highly qualified and are highly likely to be applying saying they want to be humanities majors, which the Admissions office LOVES.

Most kids at it last year were applying early, and a bunch got in.
