How much do YOU think YOU need to retire? ...and at what age will you (and spouse) retire? (Part 1)

“BTW, I’m not sure I’m comfortable receiving financial comments from someone who looks like he’s behind bars. It’s like we’re speaking with Bernie Madoff or something. Can anyone vouch for you, dstark? Or maybe you need a file smuggled in inside a cake?”

Inside a bar of chocolate, he likes chocolate. Or then again, maybe chocolate cake would work.

Oh, no, what kind of trouble has he gotten into now?

Well I’m a curious sort, dstark, and a fairly good listener. What was it - grand theft auto? Or shoplifting one of those Groucho cigars?

Lol! I can’t comment. I am trying to get out of jail on the basis of
good behavior.

Ha! Good behavior…I hope it doesn’t have to be for long, because we know that’s not possible…

Whatever are those Groucho cigars?

Ok I’ll stop teasing and let you continue helping little old ladies cross the street, little childem find their lost puppies and other acts of extremely good behavior. Give Madoff our best.

Lol!

Heh heh!

I figured that Madoff would have bought his way out by now.

Lol… You two are closer than you think…

But not too close…

Okay, now I’m really curious…then again, maybe not too curious. You are the only person who has gotten me into hot water here so far. Just read what you have written before you hit enter and try not to get into any more trouble!

in the dog house?

:)…

I will do my best.

Actually, as far as I’m concerned, he got into trouble when he quoted Marx comparing women to a cigar, and the cigar won. Big trouble. If that were my H, I would slug him with a couch pillow.

I just realized that the mustache is behind bars.

I guess I’m really conservative, or stupid :). I only have 40% in stocks, and I’m in my early 50s. I used to have 60% in stocks, but after the last big downturn, with 3 kids heading to college, I got nervous.

So 1214mom, if you’re 40% now, after such a huge run up in stocks, you must have really left the market after the 2008 problem. Because bonds and cash haven’t done much while stocks have more than doubled. So the math indicates you went down a whole bunch lower in stocks for it to be up to 40% now. Do I jace that right?

Well, that is a good line. I think instead of slugging, I might just come up with a line about a nice glass of wine doing the trick every time…

I don’t usually think in terms of wine or chocolate. But if I were to make a wine comment, I’d probably just say that a nice glass of wine lasts longer. Then he’d hit me with said couch pillow.

Hayden, I’m just talking about the amount I have taken from my check each pay period. Good point… I guess overall I’m higher in stocks now. I’ll have to check that out.

Okay, Hayden, that is truly funny. I’m going to keep that one in my memory for a ready insult. That is hilarious. Let us hope that the couch pillow is the only thing within reach.

And I do think in terms of wine or chocolate. Most everything can be reduced to that in my world, if you simplify.

We are 65/35 fluctuating by about 5%. @lxnayBob, 6% annual return over the last 10 years is impressive with 50/50 allocation.
