I'm curious as to what the average income on CC is, seeing as it's pretty obvious most of the applicants to "elite" schools are certainly on the upper end of the spectrum.

My dad makes $40k/year, but about $10k of this goes towards paying my mom's medical bills (who is not employed).

Well, if i told you, you would think it's a lot..but we do have 6 kids who need to go to college plus a lot of other expenses. So in the end..i'm not any more special than that family who has 1 child and a mediocre job.

My mom makes around $13,000 working as a special education aide in a grammar school. But she's still losing money from when my dad died and left our family in debt. Even those debts cancel out anything she makes from her investments.

I feel so sorry. Have you tried contacting non-profits for help (as in debt relief help)? Try your local congressmen or woman. I am sure they would be more than willing to help a fellow constituent find the necessary resources to help you guys out of the doldrums.

WE live OK. We're not rich, but we have a nice house in a nice area. I go to a private school...but if I get into Northwestern, it will definitely be hard to pay for (40+K)...YIKES!

I'm sure you know this already, but you don't need to be rich to live in a nice area on Oklahoma. The house prices there are actually reasonable compared to my homestate NJ. My house has two bedrooms, an unmodern kitchen (no dishwasher and carpet... lol) and my house is about 80 years old and if we put it on the market today it would get $350,000 with no touch-ups at all. It's pretty rediculous especially since my mom makes about $43,000 a year (may sound like a decent salary but to those who live in NJ/NY/CT tri-state area, that yearly salary is REALLY cutting corners living where I do)

I live okay, but I've never lived to feel rich. Also I don't know the point of this. I believe this is a college admission forum, not a forum about money.

Live in a single-parent household. Father is a dead-beat loser and left my mom when she was 6 months pregnant. We are not homeowners-we live in a 2 bedroom apartment. Somehow we seem to get by. Make about $16,000.
