How much does 1 B in 1st semester of senior year affect admission?

I will most likely get my first B in AP Calc BC this semester. I would have a 4.0 unweighted otherwise. How much would this affect my admission to colleges like Stanford, Cornell, and Carnegie Mellon?

I’m applying for Computer Science. I have strong involvement/leadership in STEM and other EC’s. 4/6 of my classes this year are APs. My main concern is that it shows a “downward trend” and that I’m slacking off (I’m not; my teacher doesn’t teach at all and has extremely unreasonable tests and quizzes, as well as I have admittedly spread myself a bit thin this year :frowning: ). Should I make some kind of note/explanation of this B if a space is given? (I wouldn’t put the teacher thing as I am aware it sounds like an excuse…)

Get real. AP Calc BC is likely the hardest course you can take in high school, so having one B only in it will hardly affect your admission chances at all. A FAR bigger issue are your test scores, ECs, recs, and your essays. Focus on those. While there are certainly a fair number of 4.0 student students at the tip-top colleges, being such is not a requirement in any way, shape, or form, relative to all the other components of your admission profile.

Won’t make a huge difference. Don’t worry
