I think I'm a pretty well-rounded and strong applicant for places like HYPS, but like almost everyone else, I usually get told: you've got a great shot, but the for almost everyone HYPS is a crapshoot. Now, not to brag but I got a 2400 on the June SAT and I was totally psyched! However, I'm wondering how much of an extra push that perfect score will really give me- the fact that HYPS likes to brag about how many perfect scores they reject makes me think that its at least somewhat rare for them to do so, but clearly they do. I just hope this gives me the push I need to get in....

anyone????

Kinda a similar question - but if a student who wasn't as well rounded and had a low GPA got a 2400 would they be picked over a near-perfect GPA with a lower, but still respectable SAT score?

Perfect scores will help (& congrats!!)
But each student is evaluated in whole, and wrt to other applicants.
So there can still be lots of unpredictability, with opposite outcomes for some, each year!

what is an average score for the SATII???

Congratulations! 2400, that is REALLY AWESOME...It will place you among the top in the nation TEST-WISE, but REMEMBER...your ECs if not great you may be rejected in place of a hypothetical person with a lesser score and great ECs....make sure your extracurriculars are GREAT and your RECs and ESSAYS are great and then you'll have a great shot.
GOOD LUCK :)

if u have the ecs ur fine

btw 1600s had 50ish% admittance to harvard.. im sure 2400 will be a little higher.

Yale rejected 60% of 1600s . . . or so they claim.

Anyways, of course, a 2400 would help, though you should be able to figure that out by yourself. Also, like many here have said, you need to have the "whole package". Just a 2400 isn't going to enough, but it helps.

its simply part of the whole package. the usefullness of the perfect score depends really on what school you're applying to.

you're not getting into a single college... you're screwed.

LOL JEEZ!!!! What do you think?

It will definately help, but its doubtful that it will push your decision either way. Your SAT is just a small part of your admissions application and you need to make sure everything else is as impressive as your SAT score

Think about it this way - that makes the admit rate for 1600s 40%, which is atleast triple the normal admit rate :/

it certainly gives you the bragging rights...hehe
It'll help no matter what others say. but make sure to back up that very very awesome score w/ your other application materials (gpa/rank/EC/rec)
Good job on your 2400!!

A 2400 v a 2100 would help; a 2400 v a 2300 would scarcely make a difference. A 2400 can give you bragging rights, but in terms of college applications, I think you fall into a broader category called 2300+.

a 2400 is ALOT better than a 2390. because it shows that you might still have alotta potential left. a person with 100 on a test might be in a totally different class from a person with a 98

Actually, stats show that people who get 2400 can't get it again. Because each SAT from time to time is different--so in a math section, while they tested something you were perfectly comfortable with one time, they might test you on something different or catch you on a trick question. Additionally, i personally think that once someone gets in a the 750+ range, it's all a toss up. Everyone in the 750+ is perfectly capable of getting an 800, hands down...but it's all a matter of chance and if you're on your game that day to not be fooled into making careless mistakes. If you're 750+--you know things cold and it's only the few small things keeping you back

Math-760
CR-620
Writing-550

DIdnt study at all and took the test with a hangover so im actually happy with this score. Will take it again, and without a doubt will get 800+700+650.

thx for sharing... that's called showing off A+

A+ showing off skill? Master, thats not A+, thats AP....

it'll definitely look good, but won't counter a low gpa/class rank, or no/weak EC's....

CONGRATS.

lemme see...
2400?...too perfect...REJECTED!

lol. u kidding rite? if even a perfect score doesn't help, why would anyone take the SATs?
or did i misread your question?
