How much does a new letter of recommendation help after being deferred?

I was deferred from Boston University and wrote a letter of continued interest, letting BU know it is still my first choice, and an update on my awards and ec’s will this most likely help or not make a difference? Also is being an applicant who is deferred from ED decrease, increase, or not affect my chances? Thank you.

In general additional recommendation letters won’t really move the needle unless they write about a significant new aspect of you not described elsewhere

It helps. the schools I was deferred from last year …I sent all of the above including letters and was accepted to all in RD

Oops, I meant to ask does a letter of continued interest help after being deferred at schools that find demonstrated interest important? Not a letter of recommendation I don’t know why I wrote that oops.

It certainly won’t hurt. But helping depends on factors only an insider at BU would know. The articlesocratespost.com/dear-socrates/deferred-early-decision/ gives examples of 3 colleges where being deferred early means you chances of RD admission are 1) lower 2) unaffected 3) higher. In that article the letter would have definitely helped at school (3) but probably not at the others.

It is good that you sent a letter of continuing interest and affirmed that BU is your top choice. In general an extra LOR can’t hurt but is unlikely to do much unless it says something different from the ones you have already submitted. But with decisions only about 2 weeks away it is doubtful that you can get a letter sent in time for it to make any impact on your application .
