How much does an unfinished essay on the SAT affect your score?

So I wrote about 1 1/2- 1 3/4 pages(Intro + 2 bodies) , but did not finish my second body paragraph, I probably needed two more sentences to wrap it and prove the point, but the general idea should have already gotten across, Obviously I did not have a conclusion either. I write well with fairly strong vocabulary and got an 8 on my last SAT on which I only wrote two paragraphs and just incorporated an intro at the beginning of the first paragraph and one conclusion sentence at the end of the second paragraph. Based on this could you give me a general idea on what you think I will get on the essay?

bump

Probably about an 8 as well, considering you didn’t get better or worse in terms of writing

Really? That’s good I was hoping I would improve, but after what happened I would be happy if it would at least stay the same. That’s reassuring. Any other input from you or anyone else?

I never finished my essay - I had an intro, and 1 strong body paragraph with 3/4 of a second body paragraph coming along, but I never finished, not even with a conclusion, and i still got a 10.

Anecdotes like this are really proof that the SAT does not test for good essays. xD

I’ll predict an 8 or 9.

Yellersam thats literally exactly what I had, I hope I get a 10! that would be amazing. And yo thanks chris,

I think even if you were on track to writing a perfect essay you could not possibly receive more than 10 points for something unfinished…however I would predict around an 8 if you felt good about it

Yeah I had been writing much better, and felt I could have gotten at least a 10, but after the way things went today, I’d be content with an 8. I won’t get below that you don’t think? I wrote well with strong evidence, in my opinion, just couldn’t finish it.

bump

On my march SAT essay, I wrote a good intro, good first body paragraph, then with 5 minutes left wrote the as best of a second body paragraph I could and only had time to write one sentence for a conclusion. I ended up getting a 6… If your first 3 paragraphs were very strong you will probably get around an 8… apparently not writing a conclusion really kills your score :/

I got a 7 on my first SAT essay, I kind of froze up and wrote a short essay with no legitimate details. ACT essay score was 8, again, no good examples. The second time I took the SAT, I feel my writing quality greatly improved and I gave specific examples, so I feel confident my score will go up even though my conclusion “paragraph” was a sentence long. Best of luck to you! For the OP, I think it depends on how strong your introduction was. They have so little time to read that if your introduction was wonderful, they may not care how poorly the rest of it was written. I would think a 7 or 8, provided your intro was strong. Best of luck to you!!

@Medgirl314‌ Thank you, hoping for the best!

I got an 8 hahah
