Hi CC! Thanks for taking your time to read this post
If I were to apply to Stanford for computer science, would my chances be a lot lower compared to if I were to apply as undeclared or for a less common major?
Also, how much does ‘fitting the mold’ matter? I’m very entrepreneurial and most of my EC’s are related to this, but to what extent does that mean my chances of admission at a school where many entrepreneurial people tend to apply (such as Stanford) are lowered?
Odds are that you’ll be rejected - 95% are. So, don’t second-guess. If you’re worried, apply undecided. Work on your essays, those are in your hands. Everything else, at this point, isn’t.
Stanford does not admit by major, unlike some other schools. However, computer science is one of the most popular majors at the school, and that could conceivably lower your chances in comparison to someone who has a less popular intended major. But, as the above poster said, at Stanford there is already a 95% chance you’ll be rejected, so don’t stress about which major you put.
