Hi, I’m a rising high school senior in Massachusetts and I was wondering if anyone would be able to elaborate on how much being a first generation college student assists in the application process in terms of acceptances.
I understand that the more selective the school is the more significant of a factor it is, and I plan to apply to some very selective schools, but if anyone has firsthand experience or any general information they would like to contribute it would be much appreciated.
It’s not going to mitigate for egregiously lacking stats.
I completely understand that and that is not what I’m looking for. I’m looking for a way for it to be explained in a more concrete way if that makes sense (although I know it is not necessarily a concrete subject).
It can vary from school to school. I suggest googling and looking at each school’s Common Data Set (CDS) and looking at section C7 where different admissions criteria are weighted by importance or lack thereof. For example, I see you are interested in Georgetown. Here’s a link to Georgetown’s CDS and they rank First Generation as a “Very Important” criteria when considering the application.

Thank you so much, this is incredibly helpful!
