Hi everyone. I'm a senior, and I have been contacted (calls/emails) by various baseball coaches who want me to play on their respective teams. My stats aren't "all that" so I was wondering how much influence the coach has with admissions for someone like me. I'm being recruited by numerous division 1 coaches as well and the coaches think I could make an immediate impact on their teams. Here are my stats:

SAT I: 670v 680m 700w
SAT II: 800 US history
AP's: Soph: AP Euro, 4
Junior: AP Language, 5... AP US, 5
I'm taking 4 AP's currently
GPA 3.53/4.0, class rank N/A
4 years of orchestra
4 years as volunteer at summer camp
Invited to national leaders conference for politics
2 years roller hockey alternate captain

These are some schools:

Haverford college
Johns Hopkins
Wesleyan
Williams
Oberlin

There are other schools, but I am not concerned with getting into them academically.

My understanding is that it can vary by school. For Ivies, I've been told, if the coach wants you, puts you on his list (I think they get a limited number of spots on their list) & you qualify, it tips you in, even if your grades & scores & ECs are otherwise not quite as good as some of their other candidates.

Unfortunately, coaches don't admit students, adcoms do! For example, there was a CC'er who was recruited by Davidson track, but he didn't get in. :(

That said, you being a recruit should work in your favor because your grades and scores are decent. I'm not sure about Hopkins, though...it's pretty competitive. If it was lacrosse, then yes, definitely. For baseball, I'm not sure. I'm willing to bet you'll get into several of the schools on your list, though. :)

Do a search on this forum for some of the long threads on recruiting, likely letters, threads started by SBMom etc. There is lots of good information.

I read that today. It turns out he's one of the coaches that has been very interested in me (and me likewise in his program). It helped me out a lot. What a coincidence though!
