How much does being from an under-represented state help?

Hi guys!

I’m in 8th grade applying to NMH, Hotchkiss, Milton, Taft, Andover, Choate, Berkshire, and Middlesex.

I am not going to talk about the rest of my stats (check my other threads if you are interested!), but I was just wondering how much of an effect being from a state such as Colorado could potentially contribute to the outcome on M10.

Thanks! If you want to read all about me (theres an extremely long bio I wrote when I asked to be chanced) feel welcome to check the other threads!

Under-represented states are always something schools look for, b/c a lot of the time schools get boatloads of applicants from their surrounding cities, and it doesn’t really offer a lot of diversity. Take Andover- they have students from 45 states. Do they have like 10-20 students from each? Nope. A majority lives on the East Coast, but they all have around 3-10 kids from a state, varies… But yeah, being from an under-represented state is always a plus, IMO. Good luck!

As long as your stats are in line. No school will accept a less-than-qualified applicant from an under-represented state/country just to stick a pin on a map.

I’m also from and under represented state, and my friends at Andover have told me that it helps, but it isn’t really much of a determining factor overall. So maybe they’ll give a second glance, but it’s more of your stats, interviews, recs, and essays that pull them in.
