Hi,
So I’ll be going to Bowdoin next year. I’m aware of the tuition, room, and board costs and all. It’s pretty expensive as is, but I was wondering what other expenses are there? My rents said they’ll pay for tuition and all, but I’ll have to manage the rest-- oh, and I’ll have a on-campus job as well, I think. How much, roughly, does it cost to live a Bowdoin for a month? I’ll be saving money this summer, and I’d like not to save sooo much, so any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Tuition $34,280
Room $ 4,300
Board $ 5,010
Fees $ 360
Books $ 800
Personal $ 1,200
Travel $ 350
Total: $46,300

so, I'm going to answer in a different way... I work 2 jobs on campus, I eat out at area restaurants maybe twice a week, and I purchase alcohol and other goodies. I end up making money during the course of the year.

People spend money on, in this order (in my experience)

Booze
Food (pizza late at night, etc)
Clothing (Welcome to Freeport)

The actual cost can be much lower - included in tuition, room, and board is a place to live, food to eat, and classes. The other stuff can all be optionally added on. I'd say I spend $200 a month, but again, I am on a diminished meal plan (10 meals a week) and I eat off campus a lot, which adds to the cost.

Did that help at all?

Thanks, that helps a lot. Bowdoin sent this financial information paper and it said the estimated cost (for next academic year) would be $48,950. I think they are charging more for tuition next year. I'll try to get a job on campus I suppose. Thanks for the feedback. Jeez, how much more expensive can college get?

On campus jobs can be nice sources of income, the longer you work a job the more money you make, and by your junior year you can be making over $9 an hour (which isn't great, but the jobs are relatively easy and you can study/do homework during some of them)
