I’m planning on transferring out of Gies business school at UIUC, and I was wondering how much the ranking of that school will help my chances?
Eh, I think it’s something that’s noticed but it’s not something to make up for subpar grades or poor essays.
I was a student at the University of Southern California, and when I applied to the American University of Paris, which is not a particularly prestigious school (a crime was committed against me at USC, and they handled it poorly, and I did not want to continue)… They accepted me within five days. I feel like if you go to a prestigious home university and are transferring to a less prestigious school, it works in your favor. But then again, I had a stellar recommendation, a wonderful essay, and a 3.7 GPA and 2280/2400 SAT scores. If you have the original metrics to enter into a prestigious university, they’ll serve you well when you’re trying to leave as long as you’ve performed well at your school.
