<p>I am currently attending NYU Tisch School of the Arts in the BFA Drama program. Although it's kind of early in the school year, I am considering transferring because the program is academically inflexible, and I am limited to taking mostly only theatre classes and I have a lot of other academic interests. They made it sound like the program was a good balance between liberal arts and conservatory training, but it is heavily concentrated in the theater curriculum and I'm not even allowed to take any non-theater classes this year. I really want to double major in English, so this is an issue for me. Also, while I'm trying to still keep an open mind, NYU isn't really the school for me socially; it's very spread out, there's little feeling of community, I'm finding it difficult to maintain friends, etc. (the usual problems that people have with NYU). </p>
<p>My worry is that my set course load, which again is only theater classes, will affect my chances of transferring. I asked someone else about it and they said that a college "won't care if you got A's in theater classes." Basically I'm in nine studio classes (acting, directing, playwriting, and design classes) and two academic classes, Theatre Studies and a theatre-related expository writing class. I am working my butt off to try to get A's across the board, but it is challenging and I've found that I'm working just as hard as my friends in other academic programs. I guess I'm just worried that transfer admissions counselors will look down upon the value of my college GPA since they're only theater classes. Some of the schools to which I am considering transferring are theater programs anyway, in which case I guess it wouldn't be as much of an issue, but others are regular, competitive liberal arts schools. Any insight into this issue would be largely appreciated!</p>
