How much does EMT help?

How much will becoming and EMT-basic help me in applying to medical school?

The certificate alone is worthless. You need to actually work as an EMT which provides VERY GOOD clinical experience.

yeah, i was planning on actually working/volunteering as an EMT after i got certified.

what is EMT?

Emergency Medical Technician =O!!!

do you know where one can get training for EMT? I searched around but I can't find any place.

call your local EMS service, they should be able to get you some more information about it. OR search your states EMS site for s listings of places that offer the course

keep in mind that getting an EMT is just one way of gaining clinical experience. if you are under a time constraint or if you think it may be hard to manage your time, id suggest another path. getting EMT experience is definately a great experience though.

where can i go to get myself invovle in EMT?

jhoopster87 just answered that question, buddy.

local technical schools.

if you become a certified EMT, you can see if your school has any volunteer positions available, and also, there are volunteer organizations that you may want to consider checking out. where there's a will, theres a way.

The way to get your EMT-B or EMT-I certification is by going through your local EMS service and seeing where the recommend. To get your Paramedic certification (which i dont think anyone on a pre-med board will do cause it takes up too much time) you have to go get a 2 year associates degree at some institution.

Hi, can someone explain the difference between a paramedic and EMT, with regards to training, pay and what they do? Thanks

Paramedic > EMT (much more training required to be a paramedic). In two person crews, the EMT often gets stuck driving the ambulence.

i wouldnt even think about getting a paramedic certification. why would you waste all that time when you can become an EMT over the summer!?

being a Paramedic is very respectable, and if you would like to persue that i say go for it! but if you want to go to medical school and arent planning on taking a few years off, it just takes up too much time tha the plus' can counter with... Pre-meds are better off just going EMT-Basic... Remember, the cert. only wont help, you need to try and get a paying or volunteer job to make a difference.

i agree 100%
