Hi! I was admitted to Yale for the Class of 2009, and I'm trying to make a decision... by tomorrow :P

For some reason, however, I can't find where the tuition for next year - 2005-2006 - listed anywhere on the website or anything. Also, are there meal plan options at Yale, with price differences? How about living options? Like, could you volunteer for a triple, and get a reduced rate?

Thanks for your help!

Wow...I'm sort of amazed that you could get to this point without knowing this stuff! Here are the estimates that they use for Financial Aid:
Tuition $31,460
Board $9,540
Books/Personal $2,700
Travel $500
Total Estimated Expenses: $44,200

I think EVERYONE uses the same meal plan. I don't know about the triple, but I kinda doubt it. This information will, of course, not matter so much if you applied/recieved financial aid (I did). Did you get FinAid or are your trying to cut corners BECAUSE you are paying full?

I'll just add to barski's reply that there is no discount for a triple -all room and board is the same - as I recall you can up your food plan to something like an "all you can eat" plan but other thn the food portion there is no flexibility. There is also a medical plan that you MUST take unless you are covered (and can prove it) by your parents plan. Regular medical is free under the Yale plan - I'm referring to hospitalization.

The travel amount depends on where you live

I believe that every meal is all-you-can-eat at every dining hall...maybe you can choose how many meals you get per day.

barski222,
you're right - I should have been more specific - the meal plans are based on how many meals a week you have - not how much you eat - sorry for the confusion! I should also add that most folks bring a laptop so that's another expense if you don't already own one.

From what my Bulldog Days host told me, all freshman are required to buy the full meal plan (3 meals a day).

You pay for 21 meals, but they only serve 20 (maybe 19?) meals per week. There is no breakfast on sunday. You can put that extra money towards food at some yale food places I heard.

They serve 21 meals a week, technically. Just because no one gets up at 7 AM on Saturday or Sunday to go to Calhoun and grab some cereal doesn't mean the building isn't unlocked.

and that tuition rises by a couple grand every time the UOC decides the university needs to throw another couple million dollars at some vast social ill.
