How much Does it help to be a resident to get accepted into a state school?

Hi, Im an admitted freshman applicant to UT Austin.
My first choice of major was in Undecided Business at Mccombs undergraduate school.
I have been rejected and was sent to my second choice.
I just looked at the 2012 freshman profile on their website and I was stunned atvthe fact that I do more than qualify for their standards.
I quickly placed a request to change my major.
Though my current residency is declared as out of state, my family is an active duty military family and we have lived out of the country for so long that I dont have a physical state of residency I could declare.
However, my father's state of residency is Texas and he went to Ut Austin as well.
Since I am declared as his dependent on the tax return, the college asked me to send in an LES form to review my residency status.

Long story short, would it increase my chances of getting into Mccombs undergraduate if my residency status is reviewed and changed to resident of texas?
Would my residency status still be reviewed upon receiving requested documents after the admission?
Please share your thoughts with me.

Maybe, the decision probably wouldn’t change though. You would have to file for an appeal.
At this point it would probably be easier to take the acceptance and try to transfer internally to McCombs (which you can do fairly quickly without any setbacks in your degree plan) rather than go through an entire appeals process.
You’ll want to get the residency thing sorted out for tuition costs though, so the ball might already be rolling in that respect.
