I just finished Junior year. I go to one of the best public schools in the country (City Honors in Buffalo, NY).

My UW Gpa:

Freshman: 3.4
Sophomore: 2.4
Junior: 3.8

My SAT was 600 CR 650 M 610 W

I aced ap english, ib english, and Ap us with a b in ap world.

All the classes at my school are honors classes.

Will my improved performance junior year relative to sophomore year be helpful? My GPA is 3.2 unweighted, how bad is that? Ive heard colleges don't consider senior year at all is that true? What about UC? My dad lives in California and I want to go to school there. I'm gonna study for the SAT all summer. Im also an URM if that helps. Thanks!

UC and CSU calculate GPA from the a-g qualifying courses taken 10th and 11th grades. Courses taken in 9th grade count against the a-g requirements with a C or better, but do not affect GPA used for admissions purposes.

The a-g courses are listed here:

UC GPA calculuation:

CSU is broadly similar; see [CSUMentor[/url] .

You may want to compare your stats to the profiles of various UC schools:

Note, however, that if you cannot qualify as a California resident, you need a minimum GPA of 3.4 for UC (it is 3.0 for California residents).

Whether colleges consider your senior year is a function of the timing of your admissions application. Obviously, if you apply early decision, then you won’t have first semester senior year grades back. Though, in theory if you completely flub your senior year they could rescind your admission (or, more likely have you enter on some kind of probation, though to be frank the tales of losing your college admission are largely overblown tales offered up by high school teachers to keep seniors in line).

The bigger issue for you is explaining the dip during your sophomore year. This needs to be something that you address directly in your personal statement.

Thanks a lot guys. Is the minimum GPA UC GPA or unwueghted? My UC GPA is 3.5 but unweighted for sophomore and junior year its a 3.1

I read this in one of the links you provided:

“For freshman applicants, if the exact course in which a D or F grade was originally earned is repeated and a grade of C or better is earned, the original grade will not be included in the GPA calculation. When a student seeks to clear the subject deficiency of a D or F grade through validation, both the original grade and the grade earned in the higher-level course will be used in calculating the GPA.”

I got an F in chemistry sophomore year. I got a B plus in it junior year. THis means the sophomore year grade wont count?

Without that class my Sophomre GPA is a 3.0, or a 3.5 uc, and my junior year a 4.2 for uc. How much of an improvement is a 3.85 uc gpa over a 3.5?
