How much does Legacy matter?

How much does Legacy matter?

Depends on the school and the amount of legacy (dollars). If someone has donated huge amounts that could be a ticket to getting offspring admitted. Just ordinary legacy can mean a favorable factor at majority of colleges although it is usually not going to get you in if you are significantly below the norm. A number of those, like some of the ivies which generally have a significant number of legacies admitted, will give legacy consideration if you apply ED but are reluctant to do so if you apply regular. There are also colleges that do not consider legacy at all. For example, UIUC does not consider it-- reason: far too many of the applicants are sons or daughters of graduates and, if it was considered, far too many other qualified applicants would be rejected.. There are probably other state schools like that.

Thanks for the help.
