How much does not applying for financial aid change admissions chances?

there are only 6 completely need blind colleges for INTERNATIONALS in US. no more no less. I am sure of that. you can do your research. the others are need based or need aware for international students. Columbia, Dartmouth and Vassar are all need based for internationals NOT need-blind.

judging by the comments it seems that most of the top private colleges are need blind..i think that includes UPenn and Hopkins too..

reading this forum gives me new hope. i'm an international not asking for FA. i certainly hope that gives me an edge at some of the places i want to attent

sunny750 i just said in a post Hopkins ans Penn are NOT need blind for internationals. There are ONLY 6 need blind institutions in US for International Student. Learn the fact.

Thanks a lot guys!!!

i hope not applying for FA as an american student helps, lol

Not applying for financial aid in a need aware school would definitely raise your chances as compared to that of an international aid applicant. But there's little use of not applying for aid if you can't afford to attend the school.

That said, an international applicant whose profile is far better than yours would make it even if he requires aid and the school has the resources.

^second that

yes i agree with you but if I apply for aid, i will definitely be in a much competitive pool of applicants compare to the ones who are not applying because looking at the stats hopkins and upenn are number 3 and 8 respectively in offering financial aid. but if i don't apply for aid at all, I think I'll have better chance of getting in then applying for aid. you know what I mean.

you cannot apply for aid AFTER getting in, for sure.

Regardless of what anyone says I think there may one, tops 2 colleges that are TRULY need-blind for internationals.

Dartmouth IS need blind now. Dartmouth News - Dartmouth announces new financial aid initiative - 01/22/08

Apply for FA if you're truly going to need it.

Don't apply for it if you think you're not going to need it.

There are no two ways about it.

Don't try to intertwine admissions with FA. You wouldn't want to graduate college with a $2,00,000 debt, would you?

Alright..Thanks!!

Alright, so not there are 7 need-blind schools: HYPM, Dartmouth, Middlebury, Williams... This is really depressing. I mean, not even Stanford and UofC offer need-blind admission for int'ls... In fact, UofC doesn't even let you apply EA if you're an int'l asking FinAid

^that is right

depends... schools are still a business.
it all depends. i applied for aid but since my parents make so much i am not really getting any aid, so in my situation it certianly didnt do no harm

it all depends on how much you are going to receive and how rich the shcool is

yeah..i am accepted at Case but will not receive aid because of being an international student...

Me too, and I am considering whether or not to go there.

ok how about if I'm a citizen,,,,if I apply for aid, do my chances still go down A LOT?
