The question pretty much speaks for itself. Does the admissions team at UF look at what you do outside of the class room as much as they do in? For instance if I have an average GPA of 3.5 and average SAT scores of 1230 but set up various clubs that have strong positive influences in my school and community does that have as much merit as my academic performance? (First post!)

it depends who you speak to. First of all... welcome to college confidential. your stats are really good and regardless of whether or not you get in to UF, you should be proud of your accomplishments.

that being said, UF admissions will tell you that they take a "holistic" approach toward evaluatring applicants. boiled down, this essentially means that they factor in grades as well as all the other things you discussed in an attempt to have a diverse and balanced student body.

others will tell you that with UF receiving 26,000 applications, they don't have as much time to evaluate each applicant in great detail and academic grades are all that matters.

I think its somewhere in between. Your stats are in the lower mid 50% range of accepted students. Therefore, you certainly have a shot. For students like yourself depending on when you applied (the earlier you applied the more likely it is that they looked at ec's and cs), and if you are on the bubble for admission.

remember. any university and UF is no exception, wants high achievers academically, but well rounded kids as well. If grades were all that came into play, then everyone who was above the mid 50% range would get accepted and everyone below would not. Obviously this is not the case and UF is looking for students who will maintain or elevate the academic profile of the colege while at the same time become active participants in the UF community and beyond.

you should make sure you have alternative schools applied to as well. The admissions process is a crazy one and you never know what will happen.

you seem like a solid applicant to me... good luck to you.

"Equal Opportunity
All applicants who meet requirements and standards will be considered equally for admission to any academic program, regardless of RACE, color, religion, gender, marital status, beliefs, age, national origin, sexual orientation or physical or mental disabilities."

ECs maybe, the rest I'm not so sure. Florida is a very diverse state with plenty of qualified candidates of every persuasion.
