I am currently studying at a Community College. I will apply next fall for junior transfer.
Major: Computer science
GPA is 4.0.
By next fall I will have 80+ credit hours.
SAT 1: 1740 (terrible, i know :()
My target colleges: Amherst, Cornell, Dartmouth, UTaustin, Columbia, Brown
I picked up these colleges a s they offer need-based aid to transfer students.
I am planning to take SAT II Math 2 & Physics. My question is should I retake SAT I? How much will SAT I score matter for my admission?
You should not retake the SAT (as I think you were advised on another thread). Why do you think colleges would compare your score as a college sophomore to those of high school students? You are applying to some very unrealistic choices, but they want to see your community college transcripts, now. It is presumed that anyone your age will perform much better on standardized tests, and these are all colleges that are acccustomed to perfect test scores from 17-year-olds. Might I gently suggest that your time would be better spent researching and identifying more realistic four-year college options than asking the same question repeatedly?

I just gave advice to a student was valedictorian from his CC and he got rejected from the top tier schools. I think Penn asked for his SAT and the others didn’t. I agree with woogzmama. You need to rethink your college list. I remember trying to take calculus at SUNY Binghamton and dropped it. I then took it at my local cc and was in awe of the difference of difficulty. Just because you are getting great grades in community college doesn’t mean you are an Ivy League candidate and can handle the pace and workload of the top schools. Before anyone starts getting down on me, I do recognize that there are exceptions to every rule, the kid with family issues, or money issues or just totally screwed up in high school and should have gone to Harvard. But, those kids most likely had a higher SAT. I’m not saying u can’t try, but you need some colleges that are safeties and targets.
@woogzmama this is my first post on college confidential. You must have mistaken me for someone else. Do you think that I should not take SAT II subject tests either?
@woogzmama @educateddarcy thanks for your replies. I made the list only of the colleges that give need-based aid to transfer students. I just want to transfer to a decent 4-year-college, doesn’t have to be an Ivy or Harvard. (I do qualify for the guaranteed admission agreement with UVa, but I can’t afford UVa.)
I will be really grateful if you suggest me some safeties & targets based on my profile.
What is your state of residency and price limit?
The University of Virginia does offer financial aid to transfer students. Have you tried its net price calculator? Have you tried the net price calculator at all of the schools you listed?
If Virginia is not your state of residency, what about the state universities in your state of residency?
For junior level transfers, high school stuff is much less important than your college record; some schools do not even consider anything that is high school related, such as SAT scores. Check the transfer admission page for each school.

UVA meets full need. How do you know you can’t afford it? Are you in-state for UT? They offer little to OOS students.
I’m sorry; I evidently did confuse you with someone else. It’s almost eerie how closely your stats and situation resemble his or hers, though. I think the other student was from a different state, now that you mentioned VA. It was also someone asking about re-taking the SATs for transfer admissions, and discussing transfers to highly selective colleges.
