My question is if you guys know if Stanford location when making their decision. I'm from the south I was wondering if that would help at all.

dont know if it will help or hurt, but i do know that although most stanford students are from california, if you live near stanford (palo alto, san francisco, bay area), it's extremely difficult to get into stanford, almost impossible.

There are plenty of students applying to Stanford from everywhere. I very much doubt that "being from the south" will have any effect on your chances.

No advantage being from unrepresented states like Mississippi? (where I am from)

If there is any advantage, it is minimal. And your state is not "unrepresented".

There are years they don't accept anyone from some state. It is not a big deal for them.

frenchychiffon, can you please elaborate?

frenchychiffon, you are right that schools near stanford have it hard getting in. But my friend go to school in palo alto and each year, the two palo alto high schools sends a combined 25+ people to stanford. that;s like 12+ each high school. Not many other schools can boast that.

The whole notion that it is "harder" for Californians to get in is silly. It is very hard for ANYONE to get into a school with 10% acceptance rate. And if the acceptance rate for Californians is lower, it is because everyone and their brother there are applying to Stanford, regardless of qualifications, driving down the admittance statistics. ~40% of Stanford students are from California.
