I did my first SAT sitting without any kind of study, except for the PSAT and an old SAT I took in 8th grade through a talent search program, and I ended up with an 1890. Clearly, I'm going to try again.

I wonder - how much does studying help? Is it worth my time? If I practice with real tests and review the explanations for each question, how big of an improvement should I expect?

Your score will naturally increase over the next few years, but not by a huge amount. I think studying as in studying concepts isn't always the most useful, but studying the format of the test and seeing what types of questions there are will really help.

Are you in the 9th grade now? I took my first SAT in middle school and boy I felt out of place.

Im taking the sat and i havent studied. i dont know why people get so worked up over this one test.
