So some say that you need a 3.9 GPA to get into UCLA biz econ. Others say 3.8 and above and you're good. What I want to know is how much emphasis does UCLA put into TAP. I'm wondering if I could slide by with a 3.7 to 3.75 GPA with TAP and solid work experience/ECs.

I was explained how TAP works for UCLA. When you applied, you submitted a major and a backup, right? Well if you have been TAP’d, they will take in consideration your backup major if you do not get into your first choice.

Last year, about 10/20 applicants from my cc got into UCLA who did not do the TAP program. About 11/12 applicants who did complete the TAP program got into UCLA.

im sure there are ppl with 3.7s (and even lower) that got into UCLA biz econ even without UCLA TAP so dont trip

Thanks guys, but I still have reason to think that I would need a higher GPA. My counselor said 3.9 and the UCLA website says the average person enrolling in biz econ at LA is around 3.85. Are they just lying? lol

Not only does it give you priority consideration and significantly drops the minimum GPA for you, TAP students generally receive more scholarships. I think last yr on this thread most people received at least $5,000 from the TAP scholarship at UCLA. So think of it this way, are u willing to take 6 easy honors courses for $5,000?

Yeah, I am. But I’m just talking about admissions right now. However, I didn’t know about the scholarships, thanks for the info.

So, lakerforever24, what you’re saying is that the average GPA is so heavily weighted with non-TAP admits with 3.9 GPA’s that it makes the average GPA for biz econ major admits significantly higher?

Biz Econ is highly competitive at UCLA as you already know. In my opinion TAP is close to the ONLY way you would have a shot at getting in with a 3.7. People with 4.0’s get rejected. You can track down the old threads if you like, as I remember the ONLY Biz Econ majors I saw reporting acceptance with below 3.8+ had TAP. Obviously that’s nothing close to proper sample data but considering 3.9 and 4.0 were reporting rejection… There was actually a little bit of animosity being expressed by those who were rejected with 3.8+ GPA’s towards those who got in with lower GPA’s and TAP. Thus, I wouldn’t hold my breath with a 3.7 and no TAP…Moral of the story: Get TAP, Fair or Not it helps a lot for people in your position.

when and how do you apply for the TAP scholarship at UCLA?

So does anyone know if you’re in TAP do you get your decisions early, same, or later than the regular applicants???

its at the same time as all transfers

Last year you had to have a 3.9+ to get into Biz Econ w/o TAP (which really sucks if you attend a CC that doesn’t offer TAP).

For certain majors, it makes a BIG difference.
