So, I recently got my ACT scores back and was both ecstatic and sad. My scores were - English: 34, Math: 35, Reading: 35 and Science: 36 (!!). Making my composite score 35!! I was so excited, until I realized I got a 15 on my writing portion :(. This was the second ACT I’ve taken (on the 1st I got a 32 composite and a 22 on the writing).
Will my low writing scores bother colleges??? I really hope not. I could really use some advice.
It won’t make a huge impact. Just make sure that you write some good college essays to show them that you can actually write well.
Do you think it would be worth it to have my writing rescored??
At 50$, yes I think it would be worth it. Especially considering how well you did on the multiple choice (congrats!). Some other poster said that if they do increase your score the fee is waived.
I got a 34 on my writing and honestly it was pretty bad and was all over the place. The only two things that I think helped
- Use your best handwriting(they say this doesn’t matter but subconsciously it does) and try and write on the bigger side to fill up more of the page. Just the essay looking longer seems to give you at least a few more points
- Make something up.- got this idea from a prep book so I think it’s ok to use. First try to see if you can come up with something true but if not make it up. What I did each time was just come up with a study to support my claim. For example if the question was should we still have the penny I would say no and that the US Mint just conducted a new study claiming that 65% of the population think the penny is worthless. The act people are grading hundreds of these a day and aren’t going to spot check your work
