How much does the writing score matter?

Honestly all I wanted from this ACT was a 33. I got a 32, unfortunately.

English 30, Math 33, Reading 35, Science 28 (31.5 rounds up thank God!)

I got an 11 on the writing. Obviously I'm satisfied with it.. I'm not even sure how I got this score, as I didn't prepare for this at all, I just wrote down what I genuinely thought of the question.

Anyways, I was wondering if my 11 would in any way somehow compensate a bit for my poor composite score in the other 4 sections. Do colleges even care? Please say yes, I want this score to matter because a 32 really sucks for me. A 33 is minimum to be even average in the top schools :(

Please tell me it matters!

A 32 is by no means a “bad” score. You should be happy! But writing scores generally do not count very much in admissions, although it definitely won’t hurt you.

I understand, thank you for your input. However, the unfortunate fact is that 32 is a very poor score if you want to be admitted into top-tier colleges. I believe the average score is at least a 33 (which is why I was aiming for it).

Damn, now I’m sad that my writing score is for nothing :frowning:

Looks like I have to retake this stupid test that doesn’t even test your intelligence in October again. A 33 would be so obtainable if colleges just superscored.

32 is not bad!! Kids with 32’s get into top colleges all the time! And colleges care (at least a little) about your writing score, otherwise why would they make you take it w/ writing? Also, have you tried the sat? You probably have, but if not then maybe give it a try. I liked it a LOT more. I haven’t gotten my ACT scores back yet (waiting patiently, haha) but I’m expecting about what you got, I hated science and didn’t really like reading. But I got a 2300 on the sat, I just found it a lot easier for some reason.

YA you’re screwed bro. A 32 won’t get you into top schools unless your EC are really good

Brother got into University of Rochester which is a tier one college, last time i check it was like rank 30 in the nation? He had a ACT score of 30-31 and came from a crappy public school. Im sure youll be fine OP depending on your field, the places where u goto college doesnt really matter if u get the degree.
