How much does the writing section really matter?

I just got back my June SAT scores and found my 760/760/610 (R/M/W). I hear that colleges arent looking at the writing section analytically as of yet but I'm wondering whether the disparity between my scores will actually drag me down.

I'd like to think that most colleges look at as another SAT ii of sorts. But I do know that a few really good schools(top 25) look at all 3 scores.

What schools are you talking about?

The general consensus I've received from the reps I spoke with was that they aren't even considering it, not even on an SAT II level. The Harvard rep mentioned the adcoms looking at it, but not really caring one way or another...

Yeah, I went to a presentation for Harvard, UPenn, Duke, and Georgetown, and they all said they weren't truely considering that section for the upcoming year. I feel rather secure hearing it from the top colleges, but does that necessarily mean that the lesser schools would do the same?

As for school I'm thinking of, they're somewhere along the lines of Notre Dame, UMichigan, NYU and such.

I got a 610 W section too. It really bogged down my scores.

I remember the Georgetown guy specifically saying "we don't look at it all, toss it out the window" or something along those lines.

I did bomb the writing entirely though. 540. Yikes.

Yeah but could it remotely make up for a so-so CR? I got 750 writing, 800 math, 660 cr. I doubt i can improve on Cr at all (I thought i nailed this one).

I got a crappy writing score also -570 but schools arnt looking at it for anotherr three years or so.

i'd rather they count it. that was what boosted my composite.
