How much does undergrad prestige matter for PhD?

I'm might go to schools such as Ohio University, Alabama, LSU and a few others to follow the scholarship money. I'd like to go to Northwestern, Notre Dame, USC, but ND and NW are kinda reach schools for me, and all those schools are pretty expensive. I'm also looking at the Coast Guard Academy.

How would going to a state school affect my chances into a top grad school? I'd look into the Ivies, ND, Northwestern, but who knows if I'll be able to get into a school like that. I'm open to other schools like Miami(FL), USC, etc..

Or does everything mostly depend on your GPA and GRE scores?

Thanks
