How much does your flagship state university cost?

It is a good program & also allows "National Student Exchange," so you can go to your state U & then have a semester or year at a participating school, to experience the difference. The WICHE also allows a break in tuition for grad/professional school. A friend's S is at UCLA dental school under the program, getting a huge break in tuition.

Ohio State estimated college costs for 2006-2007

Nonresidents

W&M is essentially the same as UVA... give or take a couple hundred I believe. (I'm on VA prepaid tuition).

I have a nephew paying full fare to PSU from NJ. It's not that uncommon from this area. Personally, I'm not sure if it's worth 10K a year more than Rutgers, but plenty do. I was at PSU-Michigan game couple weeks ago...I agree w/ Fendergirl here, there's a lot of out in the open drinking that's not pretty, but one thing is undeniable...the kids seem to love it there. It may not be to your liking but I've never seen so many obviously happy (maybe drunk=happy??) kids.

N has high grades in Smeal, loves the place, so I guess that's worth the 10K per year surcharge vs Rutgers or TCNJ.

In State (yearly):

Tuition: $6096
Fees: $1816
Residence Hall (avg): $4104
Meal Plan: $3600
Total: $15760

OOS:
Tuition: $18,600
all other costs the same

Books on average are $725 (that seems a little low to me, but that's what the website says)

I can finally appreciate Kansas' low tuition:

In-state: $6,153

OOS: $15,123

Room and board: $5,747

Making it around $13,000 for an in-state student (plus transportation).
