how much emphasis on the short answer essays?

So basically, I spent a lot of time on my Common app essay, and not as much time and effort for my NYU supplement essays.. the five short answer questions. I guess lack of effort and time isn't exactly the way to put it, but they just weren't.. creative or thoughtful as I could have made them.

nyu is one of my top choices and now, with about a month left before decisions come out, I'm starting to panic about not making it in because of my essays, hah.

My stats are uw 3.5 w 3.8 (low gpa..11 ap classes with many b's) sat around 2300, three subject tests all >700, pretty good ec's, great recs and essays.

do i stand a chance?

I applied to CAS, undecided.

I spent many hours on my common app essay, and you can check on my threads since I posted it on the NYU CC board. My stats were just like yours, except my ACT was 32 (perfect essay) and my SAT was lower at a 2230 superscored. I got in early decision into CAS. I think you have a good chance.

However, since NYU offers no interview, they put extra weight on the supplements. Take that as you like.
