If people that received their FA don't mind posting, so others can get a good idea of around how much to expect.

My EFC was $889.

Provost’s Grant: $5,000
Tisch Scholarship: $1,000
J. Eckhouse Scholarship: $5,000
University Grant: $2,720
Expected ACG Grant: $750
Expected FSEOG Grant: $4,000
Expected Pell Grant: $4,700
Federal Work-Study Eligibility: $4,000
Direct Stafford Loan: $3,500
Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan: $2,000
Direct PLUS Loan: $27,313
Total Awards: $59,983

My mom has $100,000 in graduate school loans to pay back so I guess I won’t be going to NYU next year.

isnt $59,983 basically full scholarship? how much more are you expecting to get if that covers everything?

^i think it also includes loans?

Whatever happens know that you are an extremely talented individual to have been accepted into Tisch. Anywhere you go you will succeed in whatever art you decide to pursue.

ooooo 27k in PLUS loans

I get it now

I know, I’m really surprised and grateful that they met my FULL need… especially with their reputation for financial aid. But honestly, my mom can NOT take on $27,000 more in loans. :/

^$27000 is for EACH year, right? So if you decide to go you have to pay ($27000 x 4) back to NYU?

awww
but when USC says it meets your full need, its package can also contain loans, right?

also, did your mom apply for a PLUS loan BEFORE you heard from NYU?

I thought PLUS loans are applied for after one receives one’s package so that it can be used to plug in gaps but apparently I was wrong…

You could always get private student loans to cover that amount. That is what I’m doing. It sounds like a HORRIBLE option, but a lot of people do it.

@antonioray

Yes, most, if not all, FA packages come with loans, even the ones that specify “full need met.”

how do you get a private student loan when you’re an undergraduate student without a steady & high paying job and you have little to no property to your name?

@ Kaisan

I don’t mind FA packages coming with loans but if they’re loans that require a parent’s signing

then I’m essentially doomed

that is, if I get in anywhere in the first place

@antonioray

You have to start paying them back after you graduate, not necessarily while you’re in school.

@antonioray
You have to have a co-signer. This could either by a parent or relative. They have to have good credit history though.

I’m using my aunt for about $18,000 a year.

right but I won’t have any cosigners…

Thats what I thought.
My parents couldnt do it because of other circumstances.

I asked my asked and she agreed. Now I just have to hunt for the lowest interest rate.

You could always TRY and get one without a cosigner. That is very difficult to do though. The cosigner really doesnt have to do anything except take on the loans if you stop paying lol.

D got:
Trustee Scholarship: $ 20,000
J.Eckhouse Scholarship: $ 5,000
Work Study: $ 4,000
Direct Stafford Loan: $ 3,500
Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan : $ 2,000
Direct PLUS Loan: $ 21,566
Total: $ 56,066

Between parent PLUS loans and student’s loans, this package includes $32,813 of loans per year. It’s a big stretch for NYU to say that they are meeting the full need for a family with an EFC of $800 with this package. What they are really doing is putting an under-resourced family in debt $131,252 when all is said and done.

@lincoln12

As a parent, what do you think about the package she received?
