How much FA did you get?

@oneguy21

Are you sure you applied for the FAFSA and listed NYU as one of your schools?

so if nyu were to offer me a package containing direct plus loans

I would not be able to accept it unless I get my parents to assent to being cosigners?

LS Scholarship = 11k
Provost Grant - 1k
University Grant - 3,620
ACG Grant - 750
FSEOG Grant - 4k
Pell - 5,500
Work Study - 4k
Direct Stafford - 3.5k
Direct unsubsidized stafford - 2k
Direct PLUS - 20k

EFC=0
I guess this is the best package that NYU gave this year…

Still not good enough for my situation…

I wish I could give it to someone else :(

Glad we are not the only ones. S is finishing sophomore year and has never found a work study job. Apparently, most campus stuff is union, and since my son is at Tisch, he has class every Friday, which most other schools do not. I now view the financial aid offer and subtract the work study amount because the jobs do not seem to be available.

It’s odd because every other campus we toured with D and S talked about how they have so many WS jobs available that they can’t fill them all. Makes no sense, but one more reason NYU is sooooo expensive.

Talk about false advertising :).

CAS scholarship: 15k
work study:4k
direct stafford: 3.5k
Direct unsubsidized stafford - 2k
Direct PLUS - 31k

completely unaffordable :frowning: there’s no way…

No, i think adawgg got the best package.

What’s wierd is that I practically got the exact same package as cowman809 if you read my earlier post. However, they did not give me the full pell grant?

@daughtershelper

My D is also a sophomore, all of her suitemates had difficulty finding WS jobs. One is doing babysitting in the neighborhood and another one works in a shoe store. It is very frustrating because it is very expensive to live there and also supply for campus cash for laundry, books, supplies, etc. My D has learned how to survive on a dime. But if I had to do it over again, we might have done it differently.

I haven’t gotten mine yet but this is all freaking me out. I have a feeling that I can’t go to NYU because I realized earlier that the med school I want to go to will be $300k, so I want to avoid adding to that…

Trustee Scholarship - 6k
University Grant - 9.7k
Expected ACG/FSEOG/Pell Grant - 750/4k/5.5k
Work Study - 4k
Direct Stafford Loan - 3.5k
Direct Unsubsidized Stafford Loan - 2k
Direct PLUS Loan - 21k

EFC=0

26.5k/year. 30.5k if I don’t get any work-study. 106k-122k debt after graduation is just crazy. Now, the biggest question is whether or not NYU is worth it.

@milkandsugar.

We were naive about college process. He applied and was accepted ED and we had never heard that NYU is bad on financial aid. In hindsight, would have avoided ED and compared offers. A very expensive lesson! My son does low cost housing, managed to get a job at the front desk of his dorm 10 hrs/week this semester (not work study for some reason), has no meal plan (makes his own) and can’t afford to party (!). It’s all working out, but it’s a boatload of money!

EFC: 14k

Tisch Scholarship: 20k
The rest are all loans.

Wow will anyone be attending NYU this fall at all?

^I think no one here even wants to go lol

I will be attending. I am extremely lucky concerning my financial aid. However my grades were quite exemplary. Although about 20K a year in loans is a lot, for what I am going for (film production), I feel the trade off is worth it. The opportunity to go to the best film school in the country and make the connections and be in the locartion that Tisch provides could possibly lead to getting more jobs to pay off the debt. After talking with my parents (one of whom has loans for grad school), we both agreed that the opportunity was something that could not be passed up. If I was going for medical school or somethiong where a grad school is much more important, then i could understand not going or going to a state school, but for film, the amount in loans is something I will bear in order to be at my top school.

adawgg you probably got the best fin aid package and since it’s your top school you’re very lucky, and you deserve it! Have fun at NYU man and make the best of it (I’m sure you will :p)

As for me, I don’t 31k a year is neither feasible nor worth it…I got into CAS and it’s not even my top choice…sigh it sucks to not have money.

i have a full ride(approx. 250+k), but i didnt apply for NYU’s fin. aid.

:o

impressive, is it like MLK or Pres Scholarship?

Yeah. it’s presidential scholarship. :slight_smile: I’ll be attending too. Can’t wait to get my envelope!
