Im a high school junior who is an aspiring dentist.

-My GPA is a 3.85, every single one of my "B" grades was in a AP or College Prep class
-Have taken AP History, AP Biology, College Composition, and will take AP Psyc and AP Calc next year.
-My ACT score is 33
-Im active in sports and am an NHS member (i might quit it tho, the advisor is a *****)

If i was to get into michigan, can anyone tell me if I will get any money towards tuition?

Wow, most of the people i talked to told me that i would get at least some money but screw that, if I have to pay full tuition at Mich, i always have a d-2 football schollie on the table

Apply next year and see what they give you. I have two of my kids who applied and were accepted to Michigan in recent years, but financial aid amounts were pathetic and they were the worst packages among several schools both my kids were accepted to. Not to discourage you from applying, but that is my experience. I am sure some are getting good financial packages, though. Yes, you probably would get some money, but most likely it wouldn’t be enough.

Its either michigan, detroit mercy, or grand valley state university.

i want to become a dentist and i heard detroit has a good program. i dont need that much aid, i just dont want to graduate in that much debt with dental school and stuff.
the only good thing about gvsu is its free, but my sister went there 1 semester and hated it

ROND - I gather from your applications that you are in-state. U of M scholarship really is more holistic in approach – my s. received same with lower stats than yours but has a particular set of well-developed talents and very strong reccs from a strong school. So don’t be discouraged by posts that say “nothing special about your stats.” It really does depend on your INDIVIDUAL qualities.

To OPTIMIZE your chances for merit money (and acceptance!) at U of M, please APPLY EARLY, get the best recommendations you are able to, and write really authentic and well-organized essays. By early, I mean sept - oct. And stay on top of process…some kids who ended up waitlisted missed the Nov. 1 early response deadline by a week because their GCs didn’t get transcripts in on time, etc.

And just so you know, my son was eligible for $$$ at Grand Valley as well. At the end of the day, U of M was as fiscally accessible overall, despite its reputation for being more expensive and giving less aid.

One last note – the DDS program at U of M is exceptionally well-regarded. I think you’d be making an excellent choice if you were to apply.
Good luck – you’re off to a great start!
Cheers,
