I applied for FAFSA this year just for the hell of it, but was not eligible for any aid due to my earnings in '08. However, I did not work at all this year so I am planning to apply again next year. How much would a person typically get if they have absolutely no income to report? Btw, I am independent so parental income is not relevant.

i had an EFC of $2,600, filed as a dependent and received $15,000.

each school also has an EFC calculator which then links you to an ‘Aid Estimator’… google that ****.

Wow! How did you get $15?? I used the aid estimator and mine only came up to $4k

You should be getting way more money than that! Did you try the UCLA aid estimator? Btw, when are we officially considered independent? I’m going to be 23 this year… is that the cut-off? And does that screw with my health or car insurance in any way (I am covered under the family plans)?

i believe the age is 25, but if your parents do not claim you as a dependent then you are considered independent regardless of age.

the age is 24.
