How much financial aid did you get?

all of it was merit and trustee, save 1500 from Pell.

I didn't apply for financial aid, but I got $15,000 per yr. merit, so I'm a happy camper.

mybe nyu doesnt wanna give me fian aide is just waiting until past the may deadline so i can reject them cuz they still havnt sent my package yet.. .or mybe it got lost in the mail... or maybe its part of their tactic... dont' tell u ur aid so u end up not going becdause you NEED aid and they dont wanna give u money but if u REALLY wanted to go u will reply anyways and then they will tell u later in may that u got a really sucky package but by then u cant do anything about it except not eat and think fifty times before buying shoes

I have no idea of what you just said. Translation por favor?

did you call them up?

my efc is only $600, but nyu only gave me $10,000, leaving me to pay the rest of the $40,000 tuition. they really do suck with financial aid...one of the worst in my opinion

I got 18k, 9k in loans and a 9k grant from CAS. My EFC is like 8k, so that plus a few scholarships leave me with 21k to pull out of nowhere. So, basically I have 4 days for a miracle. I requested a financial aid review and mentioned a few circumstances (i.e. Hurricane Ivan and house repairs worth 13k) so maybe they'll give me a little bit more. Penn State only gave me 2.6k in loans, so that's pretty crappy. It's kinda funny to think that NYU was the generous one in this situation. But I'm still stuck.

Yeah my FA appeal was just rejected. Now I cant go there. sigh

well, if they dont mail me my financial aide until may, i have to reply, and i cant say "yes" to 2 colleges, and if i say yes to NYU, then they can give me any kind of aide they want, like a $400 scholarship... HA so that REALLLLLY helps me a LOT doesn't it... leaves me 36k to whip up... but by MAY... what else can i do? write to Umich or wellesley and say, "oh i really meant to check the yes box, not the no"... so by may, when they do end up sending me my package, i will have to go anyways, seeing as i would have no choice

why didnt you get the financial aid package with your acceptance letter?

i appealed my financial aid package and they gave me 2000 more in grant

no! i did NOT get my package! did everyone get theirs with their acceptance?

Did anyone else get a financial aid "correction" that reduces your aid? On Monday this week my D received a letter saying that this was her corrected aid amount. It reduced the work study from $4,000 to $1,000 and completely eliminate the Perkins Loan which was about $1350. Merit scholarship remained the same. She is still going to attend, but it seems really odd to change the amount 5 days before final acceptance is due and 3 weeks after the original offer.

How did everyone appeal their aid? The university gave me nothing even tho my EFC is really low.

I'm from a single parent family, a sister who will be at college in 2 years, NO assets or savings whatsoever, my mom is British so can't take out any US loans for me and I still have to find $23k a year. I tried to appeal and they said all that will change is an extra $4k in loans. Great.

20k total, 8k in scholarship, 4k work study, 3k TAP grant, rest in loans

Browneyes did'nt you just say you were choosing NYU over Columbia, now Princeton...somehow I think you are lying?

its possible to choose NYU over both..

my family is already in debt and nyu knows that but they only gave us 23,000.. i know, the word "only". but if you knew our circumstances, which they do, its really little. i wish they could help us out more!!

you should feel lucky to even be getting 23k because nyu is known for being stingy when it comes to financial aid.

yea, they're really stingy with some. i dont get it, i have to somehow pay 30k but other people i kno GOT 30k from them. even tho i have more need.
