How much Financial Aid should I expect?

Even though every case is different... how much need-based aid should I expect to receive from UVa? (and how much of it would be through loans)

State: out of state
Household income: ~$20,000 / year, no major assets
Family: single mom, me, + 1 younger sister
SAT: 2100 - 2200 range
GPA: 3.6 / 4.1

Any range would be helpful to know, based on what UVa usually does. Thanks!

UVA provides 100% of financial aid, though most is through loans. No one but the financial aid office can tell you how much you will get.

The nice thing about loans though is that they are capped. I think for students entering this year the maximum amount of loans (for all 4 years) was 23k. All students are offered the maximum amount of loan (i.e., Stafford) that they are eligible for as part of their package each year. D got substantial grants in addition to the loans and after she had enrolled just received an additional 2k scholarship through Alumni. All OOS students are offered work-study as part of their package as well. Not a lot of state schools will meet full need for OOS.

I think you are a good candidate for AccessUVa. You should call the office.

You’re going to get a good bit. UVA’s giving me 20k a year through grants (I love AccessUVA btw) and my single mom makes about 40k a year. That still means a lot of loans for my oos tuition but it’s still really good. Good luck!

Thank you for the replies!
