one thing to keep in mind is that OOS tuition is high. We're talking $44K this year, and its only going to go up; CA is in a big budget crisis and they're raising UC rates every year. One thing sure to go higher is what they charge OOS students. And forget about qualifying for in-state tuition after a year or two; the rules are set up to make that impossible.

State schools are large impersonal places. The UC schools are still a good deal for CA kids, and UCSB is in a fantastic location. But I wonder why anyone would pay so much OOS when for a similar price they could go to a private with much smaller classes, more personal attention & counseling, etc. Or they could go to a less-expensive school and spend spring break and summers on a beach with the money they save.

tuition estimates are at UCSB Financial Aid -- Budget

hey....i totally agree...u have to pay a lot 44k/ year. I have been living in CA for 2 years and i am still classified as non-resident because my parents are Non-Ca residents....***.....

Thats BIG money! wow 40k a year. I was looking forward to applying for UCSB when im gonna go to college but now, i dont know. And plus im from Ireland and im sure it would cost even more than that for me if i was to travel over.
