So I missed the cut to apply to Michigan by the November 1 deadline. I'm an OOS applicant from Cali [as the name implies] with a 3.6 UW GPA, a 2340 SAT, and 4 SATIIs with scores over 770. Will the GPA and late application [I submitted it last night] hurt me, or will I have any shot?

By the way, anyone else from the bay area applying to Michigan too?

hmmm i still think u have a fairly good shot! good luck!! :)

Applying out of state hurts you no matter how great your stats are, plus the fact that you missed EA deadline…but your SAT score is really good and so are your SATII’s.
Unfortunately, a 3.6 will hurt you big. UM cares more for GPA than your standardize test scores. You will most likely get deferred because of your low GPA.

Did you take a giant number of APs, IB Diploma, or otherwise an exceptionally hard schedule, or are you just lazy? The combo of GPA and very high test scores makes you seem lazy unless it was an exceptionally hard schedule, and colleges in general don’t like that.

cali4nia: I think you have a good chance of getting accepted especially if you proved to them that you really want to attend there. There are so many other important factors they consider besides test scores and gpa. Michigan loves diversity and uniqueness…the so called “hook” factor. They also really need to hear why you LOVE Michigan and are not just applying on a whim. You really had a better chance going EA, but they do also need the OOS $$$, so if you selected the over $100,000 family income and your parents are highly educated with high power titles…do not lose hope. It all comes into play. Do not think for a minute that there is just one solid formula for acceptance.
