How much harder than highschool?

How much harder is college than highschool? I am kind of struggling through highschool (3.59 gpa), and am going to college, but am scared that i might not be able to handle college. Is it the same thing as highschool, but without guidance? or is it just plain freaking harder?

It depends on many things. First, of you study habits, where and what you decide to major in, your social development, and a LOT of other things, but generally, it’s ^freaking^ harder.

Depends on each person, their high school courseload, their college, etc.

High school = "easier" but more classes, guidance, no worry about bills
College = "harder" but fewer classes, little guidance

Then again, I haven't personal experience.

What are you taking right now?

I think it depends on what college your going to, what your major is, what you're ready to do, what you're used to, etc. I've heard various times that college is way easier, though.

right now im taking (im a junior)

Calculus AB AP -- B
French 2 -- B
English AP -- B
Phsyics -- B
US History --- B
Computer app. -- A
Basketball -- A

Basketball is a class? Awesome.

You seem to have a good core schedule. How much do you study a night/ how much hw do you get?

I usually dont study until theres a test. And then I study for like an hour to two hours for each test. And everyday i get like 1 hour to 3 hours of homework. I am not very good at studying, like when I try to study, something else always pops into my mind. It takes like 30 minutes to finally get into "study mode". And I heard that college, you have to study like the whole day, everyday, and that is what I am scared of.

I also have that severe problem of not being able to concentrate while I'm studying or studying then thinking about something else related which leads to something else than I stop, and realize I have been daydreaming for about 10 mins. Maybe I have ADD :). It takes me a while like 45 mins, to actually be able to concentrate on my work.

A little off topic but what does anyone stop from doing this.

When I can't focus, I surf the web... don't have to study much though so not much of a problem there. Projects though... -.-;

To avoid studying: take decent notes in class, know your teachers' "tells"
To finish hw: do it in the classes you can't concentrate for
To finish projects @ home:
1. Look at your paper
2. Scream
3. Surf the web
4. Look at your paper
5. Get something to eat
6. Look at your paper
7. Decide that you shouldn't stay up late and you'll do it in the morning
8. Wake up at 2:00 a.m. to finish project
9. Stare at paper
10. Accidently fall asleep until 4:00
11. Wake up and scream
12. Somehow throw something together and turn in

Get's me and A every time ^.^

big respect

I've heard that the workload is significantly less, but that the little work we do get will require lots of thought. This is from a friend at Princeton, specifically. I attend a tougher-than-average high school, and get about 3 hours of work daily.

The majority of the work I've had so far in college (I'm a second sem. freshman) is reading. It may vary on the types of courses you take. I have a fairly hefty load of reading each week in most of my classes. For my science classes I have had worksheets both online and in paper form. Other than that you will also have a few papers to write.

I think that as long as you have developed good note taking habits (professors, at least from my experience, will not tell you what you need to jot down) and a strong study ethic you will be fine. It is more difficult than high school but it is not so big a leap as to leave you in the dark.

Hope this helps! :)

Compared to the kids that are not pushing themselves in high school(like lower classes) it won't be too bad. Just try your best.

According to an article in the New York Times last week, college is easier and less time consuming for those who went to top high schools..

High school is harder than college. If you're a keener now, college will be a breeze.

riiiiiiiight. that must explain why i graduated high school with a 4.3 and got a 2.8 first quarter of college.

^^ Too much, guns, money, and ho's.

Just think about this, 1 term of college course work = 1 year of high school course work.

it totally depends on which high school you went to and the workload you are used to. my best friends brother is at stanford and he has less work than he did in high school (he went to a really good college prep school)

I had a test where the average was a 36, that was a lot different than high school.

In all honesty it depends on the high school and the college. If you worked hard in high school you might find freshman year of college easy (I did, but my college also has pass/no record for first semester). If your college is considered to have heavy workloads though eventually this will change to college being a ridiculous step up (see test score above).
