Ok, so, usually freshmen make the team, and continue all four years with 2 years JV and 2 years varsity. I however wasn’t able to do this, because I missed the try-out date, as I didn’t know when it was (I had just moved). I was thinking that maybe I can try-out next year (spring is for boys only, so I can’t try out this year) and do 1 year JV and 2 years varsity, or the other way around, but I heard that it might be harder to make the team as a sophomore. Is this true? I am a reasonably good tennis player, although out of practice, but I can practice over the summer, so that probably won’t be a big problem.
I don’t think we can answer that. It really depends on how good the team is.
In my high school, plenty of sophomore makes the JV and Varsity teams because they had played and trained during middle school so they were very good.
Like the first poster said, it all depends on the level of your school’s tennis team, and who tries out/is currently on the team. However, as a freshman, I didn’t make the team, but made JV sophomore year! Normally, freshmen and sophomores have equally good chances of making the team. Grade level isn’t as important as skill. That being said, it all depends on the team and coach itself. Good luck!
