How much homework do you have daily?

I always hear about people doing homework until the wee hours but I can’t help but wonder what they’re actually doing all that time. I go to a decent public school and am taking 4 ap’s (lit, psych, physics c, calc ab) and the only time I study for hours on end is the night before a physics test, and a lot of that involves tumblr/reddit breaks and frustrating “how do you do this” phone calls with classmates (thank god the teacher grades all the tests on an ap scale).
So, how much homework do you have? What kind of high school? What are you really doing all that time?

Edit: Not trying to sound pretentious btw

I have a fair amount of homework. This year, I’m taking 6 AP/IB classes. They are the more difficult-ish ones but even then they aren’t THAT bad - I’d say I get a solid 3-5 hours, with plenty of crying/snack breaks in between. I’m just in public hs.

It also depends on the person, too. Some people are perfectionists.

I go to a super-competitive public high school. My friends, even (who are taking the same schedule or a less challenging schedule as me), complain about having lots of homework. I’m taking 3 honors courses (the most possible sophomore year), including a math course normally taken by juniors. I also skipped out on PE for another academic course, and am taking a class that costs me 3 hours afterschool two days a week (it’s a seventh period class, so it’s technically class time). I barely get any homework in a night (maybe an hour at most?). I have to practice some for the seventh period (it’s a performing arts thing), but that’s more based on myself.

AP English: usually about 3 hrs a week including the weekend (just reading books, writing one-pagers)
AP Physics C: 15 min - 1 hr
IB Latin: 30 min
AP Gov: 1 hr
AP Calc BC: 30 min - 1 hr
AP Comp Sci: 30 min - 1 hr
STEM Elective: 0 - 30 min

I go to a public school that’s pretty competitive for the top 30 students. I’m fast at physics, latin, reading, and cs compared to my classmates, so my workload is usually manageable. A lot of the kids I know that are always talking about staying up until 3 don’t actually start their HW until 10, so I have no sympathy for them.

Anyone have any ideas on how to effectively study for midterms? Mine are the week right before SATs, and I also have an audition for my orchestra the day after SATs. I also have an English paper due in that same time period.

I will be taking 5 finals, including AP Stats, APES, APUSH, AP Physics E&M, and AP French. Stats I’m not worried about at all (don’t even know if I will study for it because I have a really high grade), APES should not be too difficult but I probably will have to review the concepts, APUSH I’m basically borderline A and there is just so much information!!! Physics is always a struggle for me even though the curve is generous and I have a decent grade.

Should I be studying a little of each subject every night or only do APUSH and one science course and then start cramming for other tests the weekend before?

The time it takes me to do HW is really dependent on my mood/energy level. Sometimes it takes me 3 hrs to finish HW (usually after a long night of hockey), while other times I finish HW in an hour or less (NOT post-hockey days). My Calc BC teacher rarely assigns more than 30 mins of homework, and the same goes for my AP Bio teacher. My SUPA Public Affairs (Syracuse DE course) teacher probably thinks her students go home and focus on school for 8 hrs so she assigns an obscene amount, usually 2 hours every other day. My AP English Lit teacher usually gives like 45 mins of HW, which gets reaaaally monotonous and boring…

Also, another factor which determines the amount of time I spend on HW is when I start it. I like to get homework done as soon as possible, so generally if I get home at 2:30 i start homework around 2:45. The earlier I start the less time it takes, usually.

@jamanda I dunno if you meant to start a thread for that but what I would do is study for the bigger stuff a little bit every night and then start reviewing for the smaller stuff. I am a procrastinator though.
Also, idk how much it will help you but I have a 14 page long 1st semester review that I made for my apush class last year. It went along with a list of questions my teacher gave us.
I think they changed apush a little from last year but it might help. Inbox me if you’re interested.

This year I get from 3-5 hours of homework depending on how hard I work. For example, on Tuesdays I have an appointment every day which takes away around 1 and a half hours from my homework time, but I still end up getting it done by 10:00. On a usual day I start my homework at 5:00 because I get distracted by the internet and on Tuesdays I start at 6 because on the appointment. I don’t really have any extracurriculars so that’s not a factor for me. By the way, I’m taking 3 1/2 AP classes this year.

I have major distraction issues, so homework always takes me about 6 hours haha :-< It’s not totally my fault though… my AP Lit teacher is abnormally insane with homework

Not enough to justify my subpar grades and unusual amounts of stress…
My classes are actually fairly easy. I’m just too lazy to do the work. The one class that’s a struggle is APUSH. :’(

I’m taking the hardest classes a sophomore can take in my school, yet I only have about .5-2.5 hours of homework a night. I do have pretty good time management because I have 15+ hours of dance a week and do a lot of homework before school and during 10 minute homeroom, but I still don’t have nearly as much as most people on CC have.

AP Physics 1 - 30 min
AP Micro - 20 min
AP Stats - 15 min
AP Lit - 30 min

Combined with the fact that I do a lot of it while I’m bored during other classes, I usually have about 1 hr a day. That’s not to say I’ve never had a lot. It seems that whenever a teacher decides to give an hour+ worth, all of them do the same, lol

I’m taking 9 classes at school and 6 of them are AP/IB classes (the rest relate to Chinese or music).
I’m taking one online course from AoPS. ChemWOOT.
I’m taking 11 classes on edX (9 College Academic Courses/2 Entrepreneurship) each with their own problem sets.

Each class takes me MAXIMUM one hour to complete (usually 40 minutes) UNLESS I have a project due.
The AoPS course gives problem set every two weeks so I work through them whenever I have time.
I work on edX problem sets during the weekend since they’re given out once a week.
I hate my life. It’s a wonder how I can fit my EC’s around my schedule ugh.

Some regular classes give out busy work where as the AP classes I have give no HW and heavily rely on self studying, labs and tests/quizzes

got into college so no homework… be jelly

I’ve almost always done less than 2 hours of homework at home each week. I usually just do it in other classes or in breaks. 4 AP’s. 3.75 gpa over 7 semesters. I could’ve done better.
