<p>Does the winning of a prestigious essay contest--Ayn Rand, JFK Profiles in Courage, National Peace, etc.--affect the admissions process in a major way? Would the winning of one or more be considered a hook?</p>
<p>I would think it's a hook if you want to go into journalism or creative writing. Otherwise probably just another part of the ECs.</p>
