Would it be fair to say "White/Hispanic" on an application if you are about 30% hispanic? How much does one have to be to allow this claim?

Does anyone in your family claim to be hispanic? If so, then yes you check both. If no one claims to be hispanic in your family, then no, you cant.

^^ that's very good advice. Also, ask yourself, have you considered yourself Hispanic? How has it impacted you?

I think the cutoff for what you have to be to claim such is 1/8 (though that might be just for Native American, not sure).

Every time I read these kind of questions it makes me laugh. Actually, its sad. How can someone not know "who they are" and what their background is? If its necessary for you to ask someone (especially a total stranger!) to determine that for you, then its obvious that you don't normally identify with that particular ethnicity. If you did, it wouldn't matter what percent of the ethnicity was in your blood, the answer would come to you quickly and naturally.

Thanks for the replies.

To sta800, the answer of my primary ethnicity does arrive to me naturally and with confidence. My inquiry was in regards to a statistical perspective on the issue presented to me by a peer.

On most levels, I agree with you.
