$530 for shared room
right across the street from campus (this is what hurts)
Utilities run ~$30-40 or so extra for a person
Basically 2br/2ba shared amongst four people.

It honestly doesn't matter though, it's more what people around you are paying near your school due to differences in standard of livnig and whatnot.

Where I go to school, the norm is a ~$550 for a room in a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom, all utilities/parking/etc. included. Those are about a 20 minute bus ride from campus. There are a couple of options nearby, within walking distance, but the rent is about $600 a month there.

I pay $4000 (9 months) for the master bedroom in a three-bedroom apartment with street (not assigned) parking a couple of blocks from campus. Place is in **** poor shape.

Rent is going to vary drastically based on location.

Two years ago, my 4 roommates and I were paying $4000 per month for a 3br/convertible to 4 plus utilities which amounted to approximately $100 per month. This is in NYC with a 10-15 minute walk. 1 bath with no parking, 3rd floor walkup.

$3,500 per month. But I live in a one bedroom in Manhattan.
No parking (as if there's anywhere to park), only utility included is gas.
There's a doorman, on-site laundry, elevator, 11th floor, and my neighbors have sex very loudly which sounds like Scooby-Doo raping a cow.
Had to throw that in there.

It's about eight blocks from my campus. Not near any subway locations either, have to walk to Times Square to catch the train.
But I'm planning on moving to a single-family town house in a few weeks due to all the problems I've had with my lovely neighbors. the rent for that one is $9,000 though (got a HUGE bargain) and it's much further from the campus.

Next year -- $2800 for a semester, in a private student-only complex. It's similar to a one-person dorm: 9x12 room with shared bathroom, guys and girls on separate floors. All utils included. It's also in a more trendy part of town than where I go to school.

€258(around $350) a month, for a 18m² bedroom, shared kitchen/bathroom. Price includes internet television electricity gass water service etc. I live about 1km, 0.6mile from the centre of the town (it's rather small though, about 150,000 inhabitants) and 6km from the campus.

Marije -- is the single room/shared bathroom and kitchen thing common for where you live? In Philadelphia I had to search far and wide for that setup (I hate roommates) and, coincidentally, it's only offered at a place that mainly houses international students.

damnnnnnn plattsburghloser you are getting raped rent-wise.

i'm still in a dorm and am also paying way too much ($12,260/yr, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, one kitchen, four girls including myself). utilities and such included because, well, it's a dorm. no parking because it's new york. about a 45 minute walk or ten minute train ride from my campus. i have most of the major train lines right outside my door.

this summer i'm moving to washington heights, which is a 30-40 minute train ride from campus depending on how lucky i am. rent will be ~$650-$700 for a one-bedroom (shared, so total rent will be $1300-$1400, hopefully more like $1300). utilities will probably not be included.

I live in an apartment about two blocks from my campus. My rent is $335/month, plus internet and power (internet is about $45/mo, power varies from $35-50/mo). Water is incl., parking free. I don't have cable. But I live in Alabama where everything is really cheap. Last year I paid $263/mo for a 2bd/2ba plus gas, water, power, and internet (split with a roommate so not that much; cable was incl. with the rent) for an apartment that was about a 20 min walk from campus, and on the bus route. Some of my friends only pay $180/mo in rent for a 3bd/1ba apt the same distance away (I know they pay for cable, internet, and power; not sure if water is incl.).

i'm living at a (super nice) complex like that next year. it'll be convenient to have an all-inclusive bill, but there are definitely cheaper places nearby that aren't as swanky haha. my boyfriend is pretty much gonna live in a s***hole next year, but the rent will only be like $325/month.

The Northampton/Amherst area can be pretty high-rent, so mine is $900/month plus heat and electricity; parking, cable, wireless, and water are included. My apartment is nicer and larger than the average student's, though; I have friends who pay $650-$750 a little farther out from the main Five Colleges area.

Edit: I also have to pay for my phone bill. My monthly expenses, not including food, average around $1,000.

I pay $625 a month in rent (2 bedroom, 2 bath), around $150 in utilities which is water & electric, sewage; $45 internet, $47 for tv, and $80 for the cell phone bill. I live with my fiance and his friend (thankfully, only for a few more months...he's so immature) about a 5 minute drive away from campus with plentiful parking. (This is in SC, outside of Charlotte, NC)
