How much is major factored into your selection?

I want to major in Biology, but I did not do that well in Honors Biology during my freshman year. Would this make me look bad if I set my major down for Biology, and they saw that on my transcript? I have undeclared down, at the moment. At Explore UT, I was told that UT fills schools, not majors, so I'm not sure how much this would impact my selection.

My second choice is Liberal Arts undecided, to get in. If I got accepted under Liberal Arts, how would I go about switching into Nat Sci?

Everyone’s “3rd choice” is undeclared so leaving your 1st choice as undeclared is essentially wasting that spot. You should put Biology down and worse come to worse you go back to being undeclared.

It shouldn’t hurt your chances. It might be a problem only if biology is an impacted major at your campus. You might as well put your first choice down, because that is the major you want to have in the end. You would probably be able to switch from lib. art undecided to nat sci. but its just easier to have a science major if you plan on working in that field.

Alright, thank you so much.

Come to think of it, I put down Natural Sciences as both of my options when I applied to UT! I wonder if the adcom thought I was an arrogant jerk?..

I had a question similar to this. Does UT admit people based on the school they are trying to get into? If I chose Geosciences as my school how much would that factor into whether or not I am accepted? I’ve heard Geosciences is one of the easier to get into, is that right? These questions are for non-top-9% admits.

The only colleges within UT that won’t automatically accept you if you get into UT are: business, engineering, communication, and honors. Possibly the BS Psych degree too, but I’m not entirely sure. You need to be extra qualified for those programs, every other one is no problem.

I think you should put Biology. How have you done in your science classes since freshman year? If you have done well then you show an aptitude for science.

And please don’t call people jerks for viewing and not giving an answer to your question. Maybe folks don’t know the answer and don’t want to give you bad information…

Was not implied to be rude.

I managed a B in our rather difficult Honors Physics class, and I’m hanging in Mid Bs right now with Chem AP.

lol rushedmom, I believe your sarcasm detector might be a little miscalibrated
