how much is the average rate for summer jobs?

hello people, can you please tell me in average, how much can a UW student earn for summer jobs?

Minimum wage for the state of Washington is $8.25 an hour, I believe. Cuz that’s how much I get paid. lol. So depending on the job you are doing and depending on the employer, I made like almost $1,900 last year in the summer, you might get more or less, like I say, it all depends on the employer.

If you get to do a summer research program, you might get more.

It all depends. I made about 8 grand last summer, but don’t even have a job this time around.

thank you so much sleepycat and seahawkcity for your answers. I am glad to hear that the minimum wage is around USD8 per hour!!! I do not know, but the amount sounds so high XD. I am an international student, and i think i would work so that i would not run out of money, hahaha. I wonder, whether there is any summer employer that would provide accommodation to workers as well? I am going to stay on campus, which means i would be left ‘homeless’ during summer…:(

Are any dorms open in the summer? Do many students work on campus during the summer, taking classes, and live in the dorm?

I know it’s expensive, but if there are no job prospects back home, better to stay up there and get a couple of classes in while working on campus, if there are campus jobs available.

^ and besides, it’s not like air tickets are anything cheap during summer breaks…

The minimum wage isn’t $8.25, it’s $8.55!!

^^ yup you are right collegeseeker200. omg I’ve been working and not realized that my pay has increased by 30 cents. yippee…not. meh. I don’t even check my pay stub cuz my pay go straight to my checking account.

I know that certain dorms are open in the summer. In fact I am looking into one. As for jobs, I am so glad I work at a place where I can apply for transfer, that is, if I want to.

ahh gosh man I was previously being paid 8.50 opposed to the other workers at my work who were getting 8.25 and here comes 09’ and changes it to 8.55 woo 5 cent raise -.-

I think for summer I would take classes or look for internships or volunteer at the hospital? But yeah are dorms open during summer? - Does UW have summer activities planned out for students to participate in?

Like my cousin attends University of Hawaii - Hilo and they went out during summer for a trip hosted by their school? I should look into that.
