lol, nice tiering.

Of course the Ivy League status a school untouchable and “tier 1” automatically. Oh lmao.

If you are worried about the “average person” and other random people, then the big name/well more known matters.

If you care more about potential employers, grad schools and those-in-the know I think the fine gradations that you’re trying to make don’t really matter. Basically, I think the Barron’s ratings (large broad groups of reseach universities, LACs, ) are a better guide than U.S. News type numbers to get a sense of prestige.

at least here in michigan where i live not many people (including employers) have never of

Dartmouth
Johns Hopkins
University of Pennsylvania (they all think your talking about Penn State)
Cornell
Brown
and the list goes on

Here in the Midwest
sports=prestige
any school with a top sports team is an excellent university

i do not know why people do not put Harvard in a league of its own when they are talking about prestige. Overall, around the world

Teir 1:Harvard

the rest…

The prestige difference between Harvard and Princeton or Yale may be relatively small in the States. But internationally it is Harvard all the way. Again, i am not into prestige that much. Just proving a point!

In Canada here, people i talk only recently know Dartmouth because of the movie Superbad(sad i know). They do not know UPenn,CalTech… However, HYPSM, Duke, JHU is known here.

What what I’ve heard, UCB is also very prestigious for internationals (especially Asians).

International prestige, especially in Asia, is based primarily on research quality (hence quality of faculty and graduate education) in the sciences and engineering. That’s why UC Berkeley is so famous and prestigious in Asia.

That ranking by Addison Braendel is complete trash, not even worth looking at.

I really think it’s got more quantitative evidence than some of the other rankings I’ve seen.

In any event, I don’t think the tiers really matter. Depends where you live and who you talk to.
