How much is too much in a essay?

So I have been wondering how far is too far in a college essay. I was helping my friend write his essay for UChicago and his first draft in my opinion was a bit too far. He probably won't use it so I just posted it below. I believe it is intended to be a funny satire.

There are indeed two kinds of people in this world. Those who enjoy Wagner and those who do not. In my opinion this distinction holds well in accordance with judging people. Those who enjoy Wagner are well-cultured and intelligent. Those who do not, represent the scourge of society, the heathens who please themselves with their second-rate cars and their gang music. I sincerely believe I qualify into the first category. I am an aficionado when it comes to Wagner, I drive a Rolls-Royce, and I am something of an epicure. I am well-versed in the writings of Tennyson and Burke and I quote, to the dismay of my fellow students, Kipling on a regular basis. I only wear clothing that costs at least three hundred dollars and the only time I am concerned with is the one that I see on my Rolex. But, I dare not bore you all with such trivial facts as I am sure all you great administrators also drive luxury cars and eat only at five-star restaurants. As I am sure you are aware, your school has been overridden with barbarians claiming to understand the arts. I have come to your rescue to purify the blood of your institution. These last four years, I have been in utter pain. I have had to tread along with my idiotic classmates, pretending to fit in with their lower-class riffraff. But now, with certain admittance into your institution I shall be free from the jejune ideas of my thick colleagues and I will be immersed into a sea of ideas and knowledge.

It’s WAY too far.

I thought it was funny until… the bashing other classmates part. A conclusion to the caliber of, “But that’s not me” or something would be nice.

HAHAHA

This is really funny. yeah I agree with above. It’s really awkward when I see the word idiotic, but it’s better if your friend add some sort of qualifier

I suggest that your friend be more moderate with words like idiotic.

so if he were to change the essay (the parts that make fun of his classmates) would it be an acceptable essay? I mean even without the “idiotic” part I am not sure if admissions officers would see this as funny or plain rude

Haha, it’s funny.
I think it would be a very bold and memorable essay for them to read. And I think that they would find this creative and funny rather than rude. But I’m not sure…

It could maybe be re-worked, but I am not sure if it is a good idea to turn it in. Does it really reveal the true student behind it? It is iffy as in someone could either “get it” and think it is funny, or hate it and throw it immediatealy in the reject pile. So it is a 50/50 chance I would say that it would work. Hopefully you will get some more opinions here to see what others think as well.

Yeah, uh … Too far.
I would be careful sending that in. I found it somewhat funny, but it also gave me the impression that the author sounds like a pompous jerk. Sure, it’s bold and will probably be memorable, but keep in mind not everyone shares the same level of humor.

Is this a joke? If it is, its a hilarious. Come on man, honestly, do you like the person you see behind this essay. It’s a major risk with high chances of failing. But its your money bro, but no worries you seem to have a lot of it.
